    Yarhisar Ship, located in the Golcuk district of Kocaeli and constructed in 1964 in Porlan Dragon Shipyard in USA for Turkish Naval Force, is serving as a museum.The ship was equipped with a Turkish şag in 1965 and served in our Naval Forces as a scout-patrol ship for 40 years and also participated in the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974. Yarhisar Battleship, named after the Yarhisar sub-district of Bozoyuk district of Bilecik province, entered the North Sea Field Command Operation Control Special Duty Group Command Tactical Command and deployed to Golcuk on 1 August 2002.The ship was decided to be taken out of service with the decree of Naval Forces Command dated April 2005; a şag lowering ceremony was held on 12 August 2005.Thus this glorious ship that stood guard for the security of our country in tempestuous seas for 40 years was retired… However, on the request of Golcuk Municipality,TCG Yarhisar Ship was brought to Kavaklı coast and was decided to serve as a museum for the purpose of both popularizing seas and sailing and teaching about sailing and seafaring.Yarhisar was moved to the coast by being cut into 3 pieces and taken into service once more, but this time with a different task on 27 October 2006, with a magnificent ceremony attended by the Naval Forces Commander of the time, Şeet Commander, Kocaeli Governor and İbrahim Karaosmanoğlu, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Mehmet Ellibeş, Golcuk Municipality Mayor, Şeet Command personnel and a large number of guests…

    In the ceremony, firstly, our glorious şag was hoisted on the aft of the ship.The Yarhisar Ship, the only Turkish Museum Ship to be taken from the sea and displayed on land, has been visited by approximately 650 bin thousand people up to the present. Yarhisar has a length of 53 meters, width of 7 meters, empty weight of 269 tons and loaded weight of 467 tons. In the Yarhisar Museum Boat, toured in the company of a guide, the brief history of the Yarhisar Museum Ship is welcomes the visitors first. You can obtain many pieces of information in the museum, which includes many ship models, also including Yarhisar. For instance, the submarine used in Ottoman Era, a model of which you can see in the Yarhisar Museum Ship, went down in history as the first submarine in the world capable of making bomb attacks… The ship is also visited frequently by the former ship personnel that first brought it from USA to Turkey after it was constructed, who are retired now. Yarhisar, donated to Golcuk by the Şeet Command, was converted to a public museum just beside Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Park, in the Kavaklı coast restructured after the earthquake. The Yarhisar ship, which started to serve as a museum for the purpose of both popularizing seas and sailing and teaching about sailing and seafaring is being used as a museum ship over an area of approximately 200 m_ in Kavaklı coast, with various visual arrangements made on its pedestal.The Yarhisar Ship is also the third ship museum of our province, after the TCG Gayret and TCG Hızırreis, which we presented in previous weeks…
